“Your readership has allowed us to bring contemporary poetry from Welsh and international writers to print for over half a century.”
Regular readers of Poetry Wales will be aware we’ve encountered a 30% cut to our funding since 2010. Nia Davies in her editorial for PW 54.3 suggests that while it limits our resources, ‘we can make £20k per annum a resource for hope.’ So we do. So we are. But to sustain the magazine for posterity, to see it continue in its print form, it also becomes necessary for us to seek new avenues for growth, and that is where we look to you, our readers.
It is Poetry Wales’ readers over 55 years who have made us what we are today. Your love for poetry, your love of language, experiment, growth and connection, has seen us weather decades of cultural transformation. Your readership has allowed us to bring contemporary poetry from Welsh and international writers to print for over half a century. It is with your support that we’ve been able to discover and sustain the artistic works both inspiring our literary present and shaping our literary future. To that end, we ask you, our lifelong and new supporters alike, to purchase a subscription to Poetry Wales, to gift subscriptions to friends and family, to ask your libraries to take our subscriptions and, if it is in your capacity to do so, to upgrade your subscription.
This month we introduce new PW Silver, Gold and Welsh Gold Supporter subscription packages. These new subscriptions include additional benefits like access to digital editions of the magazine and exclusive PW merchandise and to receive vintage issues of the magazine. However, we’re most excited to bring you Poetry Wales Welsh Gold.
A Welsh Gold Supporter subscription sees you receive curated bundles of poetry from publishers of English-language writing from Wales. It is collaborative, new and perfect for the Welsh poetry enthusiast. Along with their digital and print subscription to Poetry Wales, PW Welsh Gold subscribers will also get the newest (or a recent signed) Seren poetry title with every issue of the magazine. For less than £12 a month – three coffees – you will be supporting us support our contributors while receiving a subscription like no other.
For those of you who cannot spare parting with £125 a year (and we understand), we’re also broadening our subscription model by offering students and those from low-income backgrounds new discount subscriptions. For those earning £16,000 or less per year, or are currently studying, we are introducing spread-the-cost subscriptions. These subscriptions are available to UK residents/addresses only, but will see the cost of a subscription reduced to as little as £2 a month (with a sign-up fee where applicable). Students can subscribe from £7 every four months. See our reduced rate subscriptions here.
Whether you’re a curious reader or a poetry enthusiast, we hope you join the hundreds of subscribers who already enjoy Poetry Wales by signing up  and becoming a part of Welsh cultural history.
