Online workshop via Zoom, 1pm – 3.45pm: Tribes and their humans: exploring human doings and human beings in poetry with Vicky Morris
Poetry never gets tired of writing people and their particulars, but who doesn’t lack new ways in to get started? If you’d like to explore some great writing exercises and approaches (that you can keep coming back to) then come through and join me!
In this warm, friendly and fast-paced workshop, (open to both fledgling poets and those in full flight) expect to home in on the unexpected, run with first thoughts and generate some fab first drafts. There’ll be opportunities to share and discuss tips and tricks for editing and strengthening your work. Leave with the impetus to get honing your pieces and some reusable approaches to spark something new on the worst of muse-empty days.
Author bio:
Vicky Morris is a British/Welsh poet and creative educator based in Sheffield. She’s been widely published in places like The Rialto, Under the Radar and The North, and is the editor of four anthologies of poetry and fiction by emerging young writers. In 2021 she came second in the Munster Fool for Poetry International Chapbook Competition for her pamphlet If All This Never Happened (published by Southword Editions in April 2021)
Vicky has been placed in various competitions including first place in the Aurora Prize 2020, and the Prole Laureate Poetry Competition 2019. In 2020 she was one of ten shortlisted in the Magma Poetry Pamphlet Competition judged by Mary Jean Chan. She has worked for many years developing young creatives across South Yorkshire and founded Hive Young Writers in 2016 for writers aged 14 to 30. In 2019 she received a Sarah Nulty Award for Creativity for her impact in the region. Vicky has mentored many emerging young poets who’ve gone on to receive accolades such as the New Poets Prize, Foyle Young Poet of the Year and the Young Northern Writers’ Award. She is a recent Arvon/Jerwood mentee, and a current contributing editor at Poetry Wales. www.vickymorris.co.uk
