Submitting Your Work

Poetry Wales would be nothing without the fabulous poetry, articles, interviews and workshops written by our contributors. We are consistently delighted by the quality of work that we receive through submissions, and we encourage all of our readers to send us their work. Read on to find out how and when to send us your poetry or pitch us a feature.

Submitting Poetry

Our submissions window is currently closed.

The submissions window for poetry opens 2-3 times a year, and we’ll make sure that you know when it is by updating this page, posting on our social media, and sending out a newsletter update which you can sign up for here.

Due to the volume of poetry we receive being wildly out of proportion to the amount of time our small team has to read it, we cap our portal at 550 submissions per issue. This allows us to give each poem and poet the time and care they deserve during the process. Even with this cap, please be aware that we only have room in each issue to publish less than 3% of the poems we receive, so if your work is not accepted please don’t be disheartened – and always try again.

To keep things fair, any submissions sent to us when our window is closed won’t be read. We prefer to receive all submissions via Submittable; if that is not accessible to you, please email us at submissions@poetrywales.co.uk and we can work together to find a solution. We cannot accept submissions sent to us by email (unless previously agreed) or by social media.

Find out more about our submissions process for poetry by reading our guidelines, which include a user guide to Submittable and formatting advice.

Submitting Features and Articles

If you have written, or would like to write, a feature piece that you think will interest us, you can send us a 300-word pitch via Submittable. We are open to pitches for longer pieces at any time of the year.

As a rule, our feature pieces are between 2,000 – 3,000 words.

If you are interested in joining our pool of review writers, you can submit your interest here.
